Admission to the Dental Assisting Program
We accept applications from April 30 - June 30 (Fall semester enrollment) and October 1 - Dec 1 (Spring semester enrollment).
All materials must be received in the Division office on the Main Campus (W-204) by the deadline date at 3 pm. If the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, then the deadline is the following business day.

The following selection criteria will be used to determine admissions in the Dental Assistant Program
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent with a 2.0 grade point average.
- Satisfactory completion of College level coursework, if attempted.
- Overall College Grade Point average of 2.0 or better, if college coursework has been completed.
In the event that there are more qualified applicants than space available in the program, students will be randomly selected for entry after complying with all Federal and State Laws regarding program admissions.

Application forms are available from April 30-June30 for Fall enrollment and October 1-December 1 for Spring enrollment.

Dental Assisting Program
To be accepted to the Dental Assisting Program, you must:
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent with a 2.0 grade point average.
- Satisfactory completion of College level coursework, if attempted.
- Overall College Grade Point average of 2.0 or better, if college coursework has been completed.
- Complete application for admissions to the Dental Assistant Program
- Current CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS) card, which must be maintained while in the program. CPR training can be obtained from the American Heart Association.
Entry-level Dental Assistant Program
To be accepted to the Entry-Level Dental Assisting Program, you must:
- Completed application for admissions to the Entry-Level Dental Assisting Program
- Current CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS) card, which must be maintained while in the program. CPR training can be obtained from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross, Health Care Provider course
Orthodontic Assistant Program
To be accepted to the Orthodontic Assistant Dental Assisting Program, you must:
- Completed application for admissions to the Orthodontic Assisting Program.
- Students must provide verification of enrollment in the dental assisting program or RDA license and/or 6 months’ work experience as a Dental Assistant 8-hour Infection Control and 2-hour Dental Practice Act or RDA license prior to enrollment.
- Current CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS) card, which must be maintained while in the program. CPR training can be obtained from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross, Health Care Provider course.
Enrollment is determined by the applicant pool and the selection process is by lottery while adhering to all Federal and State Laws.
How to Apply
1 Apply for admission to PCC
If you are not currently enrolled at PCC, you need to apply for admission to the college in addition to applying to the Dental Assisting program. Apply now to PCC .
2 Complete Your Application Packet
To apply to the Dental Assisting program you need to submit a complete application packet which includes:
- A completed Dental Assisting Application
- One official U.S. high school transcript, GED certificate, or Equivalency Report from one of the college’s acceptable companies*
- One official transcript of ALL U.S. colleges and universities attended, including
Pasadena City College*
*If you have foreign transcripts, please read our information on how to have your transcripts evaluated.

Be aware that unofficial transcripts and photocopies of diplomas are not acceptable, and incomplete applications will not be considered in the selection process. If you are accepted into the program, the college’s Records Office will also require transcripts.
3 Submit Your Application Packet

Program Acceptance
The Health Sciences Division will inform you of the status of your application by email upon submission of all required documentation.
Upon selection to the program, you will be required to complete the following requirements:
- A current CPR/Basic Life Support card for Health Professionals provided by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross must be maintained while in the program. CPR training can be obtained from the American Heart Association and must be completed prior to the first day of classes.
- After acceptance into the program, submit a completed health questionnaire (provided with acceptance packet) evidencing good health including required immunizations/chest x-ray or Mantoux test prior to the first day of classes.
- Admission to and continuation in the Dental Assisting program requires you to maintain a grade of C (75%) or better in all required Dental Assisting courses.
- You must provide your own transportation to off-campus clinical sites.
- A selected uniform and adherence to the dress code is required (est. cost $500.00).
- Plan on additional supplies and equipment to be purchased in addition to textbooks and uniforms (est. cost $1,600.00 and $75.00 fee for ADA membership and is due the 1st day of class). This is an estimate all prices are subject to changes per vendor.
- Apply for Financial Aid by March 2nd (priority deadline).
- You must provide your own “patients” to meet the following required competencies: Radiology Full Mouth (4 patients), Pit and Fissure Sealants (4 patients), and Coronal Polish (3 patients). Details will be discussed during orientation.

This program is designed to be completed in months.
This program will cost if completed within normal time. There may be additional costs for living expenses. These costs were accurate at the time of posting, but may have changed.
Of the students who completed this program within normal time, the typical graduate leaves with of debt.

The Department based these standards on the amounts students borrow for enrollment in this program and their reported earnings. If in the future the program does not pass the standards, students who are then enrolled may not be able to use federal student grants or loans to pay for the program, and may have to find other ways, such as private loans, to pay for the program.
